Music arranger
Evan VanDoren is a freelance arranger, composer, and educational consultant. As the owner of VanDoren Music, Evan is commissioned each year to create works for concert and marching ensembles. He has arranged and orchestrated award-winning marching shows for numerous high school bands across the country.

Evan is an active clinician, presenting for Drum Corps International, the Music Educators National Convention, the Texas Bandmasters Association, the Texas Music Educators Association, and Music for All. He regularly consults with band programs around the country. Additionally, Evan is an active adjudicator with Bands of America, the University Interscholastic League, and the Texas Music Adjudicators Association.
Evan is the brass arranger for the Santa Clara Vanguard Drum and Bugle Corps, from Santa Clara, California, as well as the leadership faculty of SASI Leadership, based in central Texas.
Before devoting his life to creating music, Evan was a band director at Cedar Park High School, in Cedar Park, Texas, during which time the band was awarded multiple marching state championships and national recognition. He received a Bachelor in Music Education with Honors from Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana. Currently, he lives in Cedar Park, Texas, with his wife, Katie, and their dog, Cooper.

Drill Designer
A native of Newnan, GA, Chester B. Phillips is in his eighth year as associate director of bands and director of athletic bands at Georgia State University. His primary responsibilities include conducting the Wind Orchestra, establishing and directing the University Marching Band, teaching conducting and overseeing all facets of the Athletic Bands. In 2013, Dr. Phillips was presented the Dean’s Early Career Award by the College of Arts and Sciences for his outstanding work in teaching, service and professional development.

Since his arrival at Georgia State University, the band area has added a third concert band, seen growth in the basketball pep band to over 200% its original size and established a nationally recognized and respected marching band with nearly two hundred members. Under Dr. Phillips leadership the seven-year old GSU Marching Band has received several honors and accolades including an invitation to march in the 2014 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, participation in the 57th Presidential Inaugural Parade, a national top-ten honor by the 2013 College Band Directors National Association (CBDNA), a top-five honor by the 2012 and 2016 Southern Division of CBDNA.
Dr. Phillips received the Bachelor of Music degree in music education from the University of Georgia, the Master of Music degree in music education from the University of Illinois and the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in wind conducting at the University of Georgia. His principal conducting teachers have been John P. Lynch and James Keene. He has conducted university, community and honor bands throughout the United States and in Europe.
With over 25 years of marching band experience, Dr. Phillips is well versed in all aspects of the activity. He is a guest clinician for concert bands throughout the Southeast and a visual designer and consultant for marching bands around the country. Dr. Phillips is a frequent consultant and designer for the Rauma Youth Band in Rauma, Finland. He serves as an adjudicator for Music for All, Bands of America, Drum Corps International, and Festivals of Music. In 2013 and 2015, Dr. Phillips traveled to Yokohama, Japan to judge for Drum Corps Japan. He was a member and soloist with the Cadets of Bergen County Drum and Bugle Corps and remains an active private trumpet instructor and freelance performer in the Atlanta area.
He is affiliated with professional organizations that include the National Band Association, College Band Directors National Association, National Association for Music Education, and Georgia Music Educators Association. Dr. Phillips currently lives in Roswell, GA with his wife, Megan, their two daughters, and their dog, Bella.

Percussion arranger & consultant
Dr. John M. Cypert currently serves as a music specialist at Duncan Creek Elementary School in Hoschton, Georgia where he teaches general music to children in grades K-5 and co-directs the Duncan Creek Cardinal Choir, a 2013 guest performance ensemble at the Georgia Music Educators annual in-service conference. Additionally, John serves as percussion supervisor and arranger for the Spirit of Atlanta Drum and Bugle Corps and is in his eighteenth season as the percussion coordinator and arranger for the University of Georgia Redcoat Marching Band.

John has served as the music arranger and ensemble director for Pariah Percussion Theatre from Jasper, Georgia, a competitive independent percussion ensemble in the Winter Guard International arena. While in this position, Pariah earned the WGI Percussion Independent Open Class silver medal in 2003, was a World Class finalist in 2004, and was crowned the Open Class World Champion in 2009. In 2005 and 2006, John served in the same capacity for Odyssey Percussion Theatre from Suwanee, Georgia, who placed sixth and seventh respectively in the WGI Percussion Independent World Class. In 2000, John served as the percussion caption head and arranger for the DCI World Class finalist, Crossmen Drum and Bugle Corps from Newark, Delaware. In 2009, the Valdosta Middle School percussion ensemble commissioned and premiered John’s original work, Perpetuality, at the Midwest Band and Orchestra Convention in Chicago, Illinois. Prior to this in 2008, the Lanier Middle School percussion ensemble from Suwanee, Georgia performed his commissioned arrangement of Voices of Spring by Johann Strauss, Jr. at the same venue. John remains active as a composer, arranger, adjudicator, and clinician throughout the United States.
John earned a Bachelor’s degree in Percussion Performance from the University of Georgia, a Master’s degree in Percussion Performance from the University of Arkansas, and his Doctor of Education degree in Music from the University of Georgia. Additionally, John earned his Educational Leadership certificate from the University of Georgia.
John’s professional experiences include performances with the Augusta Symphony, Augusta Opera, Gainesville Symphony, Macon Symphony and the Northwest Arkansas Symphony. He was a member of the Spirit of Atlanta Drum & Bugle Corps from 1991-1993 where he performed as a snare drummer. He remains active in the Southeast in all realms of percussion performance and endorses the products of Innovative Percussion, Pearl Drums, and Remo exclusively.
John resides in Nicholson, Georgia with his wife, Chesley, and their two children, Mason and Madeline.
